Lancaster County Historical Society and President James Buchanan's Wheatland.
The evening will include hearty, seasonal hors d'oeuvres, drinks and desserts, remarks by LancasterHistory.org President and CEO Thomas Ryan, Ph.D., and tours of Wheatland's special Yuletide exhibit "'Twas the Night Before Christmas – Re-imagined." This 50-minute tour is a delightful performance set in the home of Clement C. Moore, author of "'Twas the Night Before Christmas," on Christmas Eve.
''Twas the night before Christmas, When all through the house, Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse..." So begins the beloved and well-known piece of Christmas literature, written by Clement C. Moore in 1822. Moore's description of St. Nick captured the American imagination and became the commonly accepted appearance of the December 24th globe-trotter.
"'Twas the Night Before Christmas—Reimagined" is the fictionalized account, written by Jennifer Walton and James Bollinger, of what might have happened in the Moore household to inspire his Christmas poem. Visitors will enter the Moore household on Christmas Eve and interact with the story that unfolds before them as they move through the mansion, going from the Moore house to the North Pole and back again — all in 50 minutes! Along the way, observant guests will hear and see the things that inspired Clement Moore, including his encounter with the jolly old elf himself.
